Anybody else very shallow in their choice of a book? To the point that it hinders you from reading good books?
I feel like the part of me that chooses books hasn't matured as much as the rest of me. If the premise of the book isn't some crazy, outlandish thing I mark the book as probably boring. The thing is I enjoy the drama in books and even movies/tv shows more now than something like elves/dwarfs/wizards or superheroes. For instance, I feel I would probably enjoy Moby Dick, just based on what I've heard about it. Yet that childish part of me still screams "It's a book about a guy chasing a fucking whale. How much more boring can you get?"
Anybody else have this problem and know how to get over it? I think part of the problem is I hate putting a book down once I start reading, no matter how bad it is. So if I'm going to commit to a book I want to be sure it's something I'll enjoy.
