Hi! So we know very little about rare books or first editions. This gift is very moving for my girlfriend and she loves it no matter what.

My question is, is this book worth too much to read and thumb through? I am NOT going to ask my mom what she paid for it, as that would be tacky. I will for sure ask internet strangers, however.

I basically want to know if we can keep it by the bed on a nightstand or if we need to put in a case.
