What attracted you to Jack Kerouac? I took the plunge and am reading On the Road. I never liked the Kerouac fan base.
I started reading On the Road by Jack Kerouac and it's an utterly painful read. I won't give away any spoilers but just know the narrator is not someone to admire and is really portrayed as naive and inept.
I'm thirty-six and while I've ready many books it took me this long to pick up Kerouac. Why? Because every Kerouac admirer I have met is not someone I liked as a person nor as an intellectual. The flimsy type I should write to write gently.
So, just for the record: why are you a Jack Kerouac super fan or even just a general fan? His writing sadder and darker than even Thomas Hardy and 1950's America never looked so ugly (there is no discussion of racism in his book so don't think it's for that reason).
So why are you a Jack Kerouac fan?
