Ready Player One is Anorak's Love Story (Spoilers)
Anorak spent his life being passionate about games, eighties movies, and all the things he put into the Oasis. He had trouble connecting with people. By creating his easter egg, he invited someone to share his interests, and to learn to understand him. That's something most people do with a lover or a child, and normally not to that extent. Anorak was more intense than most people, hence why he didn't realise how hard the competition would turn out to be. He just wanted someone to share his interests, to get his thought processes, and to then to take care of that person.
