So I just finished The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets Nest and really want to talk about the series. (Spoilers)
I know I'm a bit behind since the new book came out recently but I really want to talk about the trilogy and see what other people thought about it.
Personally I loved the first book the most. The balance of mystery and investigation, learning about the characters, the action, the pacing, the atmosphere. All of it was wonderful to me. I was so curious how there could be a second book let alone a 3rd, 4th, and the 5th on the way.
Once I got into book 2 I enjoyed it but it wasn't the same. It felt so over the top which can be fine and good but it just felt like every character had every single thing going for them (or against them) it felt like lisbeth and blomkvist were just unstoppable and niedermann was just an insane force. The pacing was also really bad for me. 150 pages of lisbeth traveling that ended up amounting to nothing pissed me off so much.
The 3rd book was just boring to me and I love books and shows and movies that are largely dialogue and investigation. But the way the 3rd book handled it just bothered me. All but 4-6 chapters had lisbeth locked in the hospital, I understand the idea was to have blomkvist and co shine as the main winners but by the end they were all shoved to the side. Also what happened to the sex trafficking book? I assume thats what book 4 is about but after reading 3 I'm honestly not sure I want to continue with the series. It just did nothing for me in the grand scheme of things. If you look it at chapter by chapter its good, its well written and riveting but when you look at it as a whole it was slow, boring, drawn out, and rushed at the end. I wanted to see the section trial but instead we got a quick "Ya they're being taken care of" and that was it. Also the way they handled niedermann was just disappointing. I had hoped she would begin tracking him down for the 4th book but now idk.
What was everyone elses opinions? Am I alone in my thoughts?
