I just finished reading Kobo Abe's 'The Box Man,' and what, exactly, did I just read?
initially it felt like a commentary on the invisibles of society, particularly the homeless, but then it just... spiraled into a not-so-controlled descent into insanity. the last half of the book i felt as though i was just reading words, and not necessarily that any of them made any sense together, or in the larger context of the book. what is this actually meant to be ABOUT, as far as the almost overwhelming and blatant commentary? the commentary was so abundant that i just... couldn't actually parse it. it felt like there was too much of it, and too many layers, to actually make any sense of it without taking it literally a page at a time and methodically deciphering it.
