Just read and finished 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time

I'll preface this by saying that I'm an avid reader and have read a decent amount of sci-fi (The Martian, Frankenstein, Enders Game, and The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy to name a few favorites)

How the fuck did I go 23 years of my life without reading this masterpiece of fiction?

It's incredibly paced, with no section being remotely dull or expected. From the fascinating portrayal of Moonwatcher to the discovery of the Obelisk on the moon, to Hal's increasing thriller arc, and finally the mind-blowing discovery at the end, I finished the book in a matter of hours (via audible).

I assumed a sci-fi book from the 60s would feel outdated and dull but, oh my god, I could not have been more wrong. I was amazed at how ahead of it's time it felt. It's easily in my top 5 favorite books of all time now, and I'm sure I'll read it over and over again.
