Should I keep reading or just stop?

Hey r/Books

I'm a mid-level reader (I think) and I've balanced fiction and non-fiction quite well all this time. Recently though, I've been reading more non-fiction, psychology and popular science to be clear. A couple of weeks ago, I picked up The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks. Contrary to my expectations though, this book has been dull and boring. Sacks documents the various cases he's seen over his lifetime, and though the stories of the patients are interesting, the book is anything but. My problem with the book are as follows:

  • Though the conditions the patients have are interesting in themselves, not much emphasis is given to these stories. It's more about Mr. Sacks pondering what their existence might be like and little bits of philosophy thrown in for good measure.

  • The author writes about conditions that could (borderline) require a medical degree. Little explanation is given about the diseases he mentions and there are various footnotes that refer us to scientific papers published in the field of neurology.

  • Lastly, this could be subjective, but the style of writing isn't all that great. The sentences used are so long and contrived that it takes more than one reading to get the full context.

So my question, r/Books, is should I keep reading till the end considering that I've already started? Or should I go on to my next book? Thank you for your time. :)
