I know it's extraordinarily last minute; but if you, like me, are still looking for a couple of extra presents for friends and family before the big day, here are some suggestions for some of the best literary stocking fillers -

1. Christmas with Dull People, by Saki (an Edwardian satire that is probably extremely relatable to a lot of us on Christmas)
2. Penguin Little Black Classics (they cost 80p, and don't run more than a few dozen pages long; include cracking reads from authors like Jane Austen, Dostoyevsky - but also big name works of writing like the Communist Manifesto)
3. This is the place to be by Lara Pawson (Great memoir by Guardian columnist and war correspondent Lara Pawson - and extremely short!)
4. On being nice, by the School of Life (interesting read about what it takes to be more pleasant to others (pretty appropriate for Christmas))
5. Corbyn colouring book (Probably more of a UK-based present; but a shameless attempt to commercialise the rising swell of popularity for the radical left-winger. A cracking gift for any of those young Corbynistas you know)
6. One of the radical novellas by Will Eaves (shortlisted for the BBC National Short Story Award this year, Will Eaves is getting quite the attention in the media for his pretty unique approach to structure and style. Very small novellas but The Absent Therapist and The Inevitable Gift Shop are both excellent pressies (even if you're only buying them for yourself)
7. 'We Go to the Gallery' (the original satirical children's book for adults that inspired all those spoof children's classics you see in every bookstore or department store these days)
