My friend has become psychotic. How can I get them help? Should I do anything?

I have a friend I have know for a great many years. He was always highly intelligent and logical. About a year ago he became severely delusional. He has always been a bit paranoid but this was different. He went from being logical and science minded to believing he was a Messiah (his own words) and that he was a healer meant to find cures for people. I tried to talk to him and gently get him to recognize he might not be thinking clearly and maybe he should consider talking to a professional. Recently he has become more and more paranoid and his delusions are getting more complex and even less logical and further from reality. He gave me a bunch of scribbled dated entries on paper and it felt like a scene from a movie. For some reason he trusts me over even his partner and his family and he seems to try to hide the full extent of his psychosis because he doesn't trust them to not "slip up". I feel like I have a limited store of trust with him that I might be able to use for some good but I don't want to squander what little chance I have of getting him help. I'm at a loss.
