Question for slow readers regarding reading comprehension
I'm probably one of the slowest readers here. If I'm reading decently I can do about 10 pages per hour, but I have some weird slumps where my brain just turns off and I can't even make sense of simple sentences. I can read the words just fine, but it's like I'm not there while reading and I never get the meaning, so I'm stuck at times repeating the same sentence up to 10 times (even when nothing's on my mind and I concentrate on the text). And when I'm a bit tired mentally that happens at least 3 to 6 times per page. When I'm in this condition I can do about 4 to 6 pages per hour. I just tried an online test because I felt like I was in one of those situations and it came back 89 wpm, simply because I really needed to read it like 4 or 5 times over before feeling comfortable with hitting the End button.
I love the idea of reading and whenever I finish a book, or simply when I'm in the zone, I actually have a ton of fun, but it's really hard not to just drop the medium. It's literally worse than watching a movie at .5 speed. Imagine those really boring and descriptive sections that happen every now and then in every novel, and now think about them being 10 times as long. It's frankly exhausting to the point where I'm starting to hate even the really good books that I read.
My reading comprehension is close to 100% but it's not at all worth it. Did anyone here ever have to deal with what I'm describing and was able to overcome this issue? I really love good stories and other media just don't do it at all for me 9 times out of 10.
