Anton Chekhov made me look like a crazy person

I wanted to share something that happened to me recently. I was on the subway going home from work, and reading a book of short stories by Anton Chekhov, I had just started the book and read the many pages about the author first, it outlined his life and although it mentioned Chekhov's humorous short stories, it really gave me an overall feeling that I was going to read something serious or dramatic. I wasn't familiar with Chekhov at all, I didn't know his style and had never read anything by him. The first story on the book was "Death of a Government Clerk." Those of you who know it might realize by now why I almost passed out from laughing. I think the unexpectedness had something to do with it, but I literally was in tears by the time I reached the last paragraph, and the general was stamping his foot yelling "GET OUT, GET OUT!" And the final word of the story just left me wondering if I'd ever be able to breathe again, all the while some people probably wondered what the hell was so funny in a book. When I finally stopped laughing I realized I had just fallen in love with Chekhov. On the rest of the way home, I kept remembering the story and laughing with myself, and even until now I still can't get enough of it and am writing about it.

TL;DR: I read Chekhov's "Death of a Government Clerk" on the subway and it made me lose it.
