[Discussion] Have you read "My Work Is Not Yet Done"? What do you think of it?
I have just finished the My Work Is Not Yet Done by Thomas Ligotti, and I was wondering what the reddit community thinks of it.
For me, I cannot say I enjoyed it that much. Firstly, I somehow did not know that the book have 3 stories, instead of one. And while I was reading the first one (after which the book is called), I was under the impression that it will not end where it did, and when I realised that I was hugely disappointed.
SPOILERS AHEAD!
Once I have finished the first story, I understood that character died - killed himself, if that is not the case, then this text is not relevant that much. If it is, continue reading.
Main thing that bugs me is that the main character "just" died. I mean, it was all gruesome horrors that he did to the members of "The Seven", and he was possessed by the vengeance that he would also FINISH his UNFINISHED work, but apparently it was not the case. He kinda chose liberation (death), rather to finish the work he started, and then, oh well, wonder in darkness for all eternity. And I do not think I like that, what do you think?
Also as a bonus, on the cover of my edition, it says "...once his work is finished, he will have to pay a terrible price...", which is kinda not true, I mean, in this book, it is obviously shown that death is not the worst thing that can happen to you while playing with all those powers.
And yeah, what about the Richard? What's the story behind him?
I hope I did not miss something in the book, but the story just seems UNFINISHED.
About two other stories, I can't say much, they were so-so to me.
