When the GI says man can be ruled by 3 forces- miracle, mystery, and authority, I understand what miracle and authority are. You give man wonders such as unlimited food and riches, and he will follow you. Or you can just force him to follow you through authority.

But the word mystery is difficult for me to comprehend here. I usually think of mystery like a puzzle, secret, something that needs to be discovered. Like a murder mystery or conspiracy theory.

In that sense, how can man be ruled by "mystery", and what would have been mysterious if Christ threw himself from the temple and let angels lift him up?
