Read my first book of the New Year!
It was Silk by Alessandro Baricco (so yeah, only 91 pages). I've decided that when I'm home from University I'm going to start picking a random book off my Mum's shelf and reading it. I'm trying to read more this year, not to reach a particular goal but just to find more of what I love, and discover some new favourites.
This book could not have been more of a surprise. It was almost a 'mini epic', as oxymoronic as this sounds. The writing was so precise and still managed to be vivid and poetic. I also feel like I learned something about the silk trade in the 1800's. I'll probably re-read it in a few years, especially as it's so short.
Has anyone else here read it? What did you think? Any other books by this author I may like, or maybe something by someone else that might tickle my fancy?
