I got dumped a month ago by the woman I loved and was sure I would spent my life with, upon starting Joyland the character Devin Jones really resonated with me. I would recommend the book to anyone going through something similar.

Among other things I've rarely found myself hooked by a book so thoroughly. The characerisations and world he made was absolutely fascinating. I really felt the joy of people as Dev put on the fur, the nervous excitement as he got the park running for Mike, the sad acceptance as he realised he could've had Erin if the situation had been a little different.

If you read one book in 2018, read Joyland.
