The Picture of Dorian Gray and its striking similarities to. . . The Prequels
Has anyone else noticed how similar both of these narration arcs are? Over the course of both you have a very manipulative, very creepy, very influential, very powerful older figure that makes everlasting impressions on a younger, bright, even slightly angsty pupil? When Harry and Dorian talk I just imagine Palpatine and young Anakin in all of their cringy conversation glory.
Not to mention in both, the older figure persuades them and manipulates them to follow their inner passions and drives. To explore their worlds, explore their values, and push them to consider how they view their worlds, with no regards to their status quo, or the traditional views or actions of their societies.
Both were also born out of mysterious and tragic circumstances, which could have led them to their life of individualistic expression, and their need for power, and choice.
It might just be me, but it seems there's a lot of connections. I'd love to hear your thoughts! Let me know what you think.
