‘The Power of Positive Thinking’ - a deceptive and misleading title.

Written by Norman Vincent Peale, the exterior has no mention of the book’s true contents. I bought it on Amazon after seeing it was well rated and the blurb was intriguing.

It just became the first book I have ever shelved without finishing. Every page is filled with ‘God this’, ‘God that’ and various bible stores / stories about how the church has helped people

If the writer wishes to be Christian and believe prayer will solve mental health issues, then that’s his right to do so. But to write a book that has no mention on the exterior of religion at all, is deceptive to say the least.

I opened it expecting practical and relateable stuff, I usually enjoy books of this nature so it was really disappointing to see that the whole book was a dressed up sales pitch for Christianity. The foreword and intro did hint at this, and the first chapter just delved deeper. I resolved to substitute any mention of a god for ‘self belief’ or similar. By the end of the second chapter it was unbearable, so I decided to pick points at random to see if the theme continued.

It did. Extensively.

A more appropriate title would be ‘The Power of Masking True Intentions To Sell Millions of Copies to Idiots Like Phoxa on Reddit’. I feel deceived. Thanks Norman!

I see the irony in this negatively themed post about a positivity book.
