What do y'all think of books written by Standup Comics?

I generally find them varying degrees of poorly written and haven't made it all the way through any. Bill Maher and the Daily Show coffee table books were entertaining enough, but Colbert's writing a book in his assumed persona was the worst. Jon Stewart's was pretty boring, as was Lewis Black's (who is one of my favorite comics). I intentionally never tried to read Sarah Silverman's Bedwetter because she's another favorite and I didn't wanna be disappointed again. This year I gave my dad a Russell Brand book because he's his favorite comedian and he gave me a Doug Stanhope book-- who's my favorite. Then we exchanged looks of disappointment.

I've been reading a Kierkegaard anthology and need a break but am wary of Stanhope's possible lack of writing acuity.

A strange shade to all this is that I was comedian for three years in college, moved to start "life," got a grant writing gig and decided to get back to creative writing, and wrote a book in three months. I think I'm a better writer than comic but it's easier to get paid as a comic. It's more satisfying to get handed $20 for ten minutes of jokes than it is to get directions deposits of pocket change from Amazon. However it's more satisfying to hold your book in your hand than a promotional flyer with your name misspelled.
