What fantasy series has a great ending?
Of the popular fantasy series’s that I’ve read, most of them have had, in my opinion, either unsatisfying or cheap or just plain bad endings. I’ve started to think that perhaps I get so invested in the story that I dislike any ending no matter it’s quality, so I’m wondering if there are any popular fantasy series with conclusions that are almost universally loved. In other words, I’m looking for a fantasy series where the best book in the series is the last one.
For reference, all these series endings left me somewhat disgruntled:
Hunger Games- Just kinda depressing. Also was lacking the best part of the series- the actual “hunger games” that went on inside the arena.
Harry Potter- Resurrection part seemed cheap, Ginny + Harry seemed forced, and don’t even get me started on that cheesy ending where Harry’s son is named Albus Severus James Sirus Hedwig Potter or something.
Inheritance series- Honestly, Galbatorix was built up so much that I think no matter how he died, it would feel kind of cheap. Arya and Eragon not ending up together was pretty disappointing. Also, the fact that Arya ended up killing a shade and riding a dragon made Eragon’s deeds seem a little less special, if that makes sense.
A song of ice and fire- No ending.
Do you disagree with my opinion about the endings of the above series’s? Have you read a fantasy series and loved the ending? Let me know!
