There's lots of talk this time of year about the best books you read, but not much about the worst.

For me, it was Ready Player One by a mile. I still struggle to understand how so many people love it. It's ham-fistedly delivered nostalgia porn written from the perspective of the worst possible stereotype of a reddit neckbeard.

I hated it so much I couldn't put it down. I kept turning the page to see how long the next 80s reference explanation would be, or if we'd get another mention of Aech's "cheshire grin". When the main character wins an argument against his nemesis and the room bursts into applause I knew I was going to finish the book and I knew I was going to hate every moment of doing so.
