Why Do People Think Self-Love Helps?
I got over hating myself in any simplistic sense probably a decade ago. I love myself passionately and profoundly.
That transition didn't make me any less sad, angry, or hopeless. If anything, it made more upset about my lack of access to nice things and eternally unfulfilled desires. Back when I hated myself, at least I could say I deserved to suffer. Now I hate this nightmarish world where I can't thrive.
Arguably I overestimate how bad things are for me, because mental illness or whatever. Regardless, abiding self-love hasn't improved that dynamic.
Why do so many folks assume self-love helps people feel better?
