UWP or WPF for rich desktop applications?
Hi All,
About to start a new project. The project is tightly linked to specialized hardware using a USB connection.
The application functions as a controller to the USB connected hardware and handles UI, data recording etc. The application will run on a dedicated Windows 10 tablet.
I am really not sure what to go with; WPF or UWP? WPF seems dead or at least dated, but the UWP sandbox might have too many limitations.
I have done a few technology demos and it seems like UWP can do all we need for the project for now, but it seems so "fragile". Sideloading with PowerShell scripts seems clumsy and I am not sure what problems it might cause down the line.
What if the user selects "No" to one of the prompts like "Would you allow the app to use x device?"? I really don't want to give the user that level of control.
The backup strategy is to have a Windows Service that can do the things the UWP cannot, but it is not very elegant either.
For a rich desktop application, what is the best option right now?
