Learning Xamarin and Android dev. for the first time: should I learn and use XAML or AXML?
Hello there! I'm extremely happy to be making my first post here in /r/dotnet! As someone who's picked up programming half a year ago, it's an achievement!
The reason I'm writing this post is because I want to develop applications for android and was wondering what are the advantages and disadvantages of using axml vs xaml.
I have been developing a WPF application for the last month and know a bit of xaml already. However, I was also thinking that maybe there would be advantages in learning the native axml layout.
I really don't care about learning a new xml language such as axml or just continuing with xaml, but I would like to know which one, in your opinion, is more enjoyable to write and use.
I really don't care about iOS apps at all.
I'm currently programming as a hobby and will not buy a mac. What I do care about is being able to learn android development with as little hurdles as possible.
I know that if I learn axml I will later be able to pick up kotlin and develop fully native applications, which will also enable me to find a job in android development more easily.
However, at this point neither platform support nor future job perspective are what matter most to me. What matters most is getting things done and being able to pick something up quickly, with the least amount of "Why isn't this working?" in the process.
Given my situation, which one would you recommend? Which language, after the initial learning curve, will allow me to dive right in and have a hassle / obstacle / surprise free experience developing with Xamarin?
Thank you! :D
