MVC vs MVVM. Is there really THAT big of a difference?

I have studied software architecture and built apps in MVVM and MVC and I struggle to find big differences between the two. All I have really seen is this: MVVM: Great for unit testing

Both should be loosely coupled from the view, and the controller is a bit more coupled than the View model.

Clearly I do not have the understanding that I should have, but most of the comparisons online do not show much differentiation between the two. Id there anyone who can list some blaring differences that I am having a hard time finding? Thanks.
