Do employers expect experience with Visual Studio (I'm a vimmer)?
I'm applying for jobs and one of the interviewers was surprised that I don't use VS (or any IDE for that matter). He asked me if there was any reason why I'm not using IDEs since they're designed to help programmers stay productive. I told him that I've always used Vim and have never felt a need to switch.
Do employers typically take tooling into account during hiring? I've noticed .NET shops asking me about my development environment but most other places don't really care. I'm just wondering if not using VS makes it appear as if I don't value productivity or something.
