Long-term (90s till today) Pythoneer. Where should I find a taste of what I'd like about .NET?
Hi and thanks for indulging perhaps an open-ended question.
I've been using Python since the 1.x era and I've always loved it. I haven't used a Microsoft IDE since I tried playing around in Visual Basic 1 for DOS. Yes, that was a thing and yes, I'm old. Now I've done a few projects in Vue.js, I've moved from Django to Falcon for a backend API.
And I'm left sort of wondering if, I guess, there's something more out there. I'm particularly interested in the possibility of starting a new project that will likely have a web app, a mobile app, and a desktop app. One option is going HTML with Quasar or Electron for the "native" bits.
But I keep thinking of .net. I know a little about how .net compiles to everything, and I'm really wondering if I could write a client library once and maybe even the frontend once and have it run a bit more elegantly everywhere.
I boot mostly to Ubuntu, but I have Windows installed. I want a taste, but it's all overwhelming. .NET MVC, Framework, Core, Visual Studio, Xamerin, VS Code. I downloaded Visual Studio Community, but it's a bit overwhelming. I'm not really looking to learn just yet -- I'm looking for a taste of what's possible. I want to experiment with what's really interesting, like Blazor perhaps. What should I start? What would I be wowed by in under 2 hours?
Thanks for reading and for any replies.
