About to embark on reading Ulysses after finishing GR and Infinite Jest, thoughts on reading speed?

After a brief hiatus from reading during the semester I decided to get back into the swing of things and picked up infinite jest. Loved it and finished it in a week, and then picked up gravities rainbow the next day and finished it in four days, IMO its much harder, I found IJ very readable and accessible, while GR was on a whole different level, however I enjoyed it and upon checking a summary I followed the plot/themes/characterization decently with some gaps.

I picked up TPK by Wallace and Ulysses and am about to start Ulysses tonight or tomorrow, however I have a question about reading speed, I have several speeds, I can read in a conscious voice, hearing each word in my head, which gives me the greatest comprehension and ability to think about themes, and abstract from the text; or i can read faster where i look at each word and it "flashes" in my mind, where i follow but lose information, then I can read beyond, this and it feels I can read a page and have not actively understood much despite going over all the sentences.

Should I slow down, or try to find a goldilocks reading speed for enjoyment and comprehension, for the big moments I always slow down however the faster speed keeps the pace of the story flowing.

Also thoughts or tips on Ulysses would be appreciated.
