#BellLetsTalk: a powerful initiative or just another PR stunt?
Tomorrow (January 31) will be the eight #BellLetsTalk day. Once a year, the Canadian cellphone provider donates 10 cents for every social media interaction with the hashtag, as well as for every text or phone call from those with Bell. The money is distributed to community-based organizations whose work relates to mental health. Since 2011, they've donated almost $73M.
Some people oppose Bell's project and say that it's a corporate PR stunt and fosters one-day activism. Others emphasize the donations and that it aims to end the stigma around mental health.
I'm not posting this to stir the pot, I truly want to hear what the Reddit community thinks. This podcast also digs into the topic and how certain hashtags play a role in social movements: https://soundcloud.com/lostandfounders/ep-14-lfp-hyperloop-hashtags-for-social-change-millennial-mottos
