Catcher in the Rye
The first time I read this book I didn't quite like it. I read it for a class and I think me being forced to read it played some sort of role in that but I found Holden's character to be annoying and pessimistic which sort of killed it for me. Everything in the book got really repetitive and was filled with him complaining more than anything else. I was told before I read it by various people that you either end up hating it or absolutely loving it. I didn't enjoy it too much the first time around but for some reason I felt like rereading it so that's what I'm doing. I'm about halfway through and I certainly enjoy it more the second time reading it. Don't exactly know what changed my mind. I wouldn't call it a favorite but I have some appreciation for it now. I really like Salinger's writing style. He did an amazing job writing from Holden's perspective. The reader really gets into his mind and feels what he feels, moreso than with any other book I've ever read. I know a lot of people dislike the book greatly but I don't think it's all that bad anymore.
