How can I read faster if I constantly over-visualize what I read?

The only way I can get into books properly is if I overthink them and actually take a second to imagine someone clenching a fist or whatever.

The problem is that it probably slows down my reading too much, but it's the only way I can actually comprehend what I read. I can read much faster, but if I do so, I'd be unable to tell you what I just read.

Is this a normal way to read?
