Some authors like to have parts of dialogue in another language, particularly French. I believe Lolita had it a lot, and right now I’m reading Casino Royale and French is very common in dialogue.

To me, it doesn’t add any flavor and instead I feel like I’m missing out on details because I don’t speak French. Trying to translate every sentence is very distracting and so I just glance over the French parts and keep on reading.

Any thoughts?
