I finished Blood Meridian, by Cormac McCarthy
Hello everyone! Thanks to this sub I decided to make a goal reading for this year. I'm so exciting to see how is this journey!
To make it easy I will put my Goodreads review (my first, sorry if there's something wrong):
I started the Reading Challenge 2018 with this book because of all the comments I read among the internet talking about it.
This book is excellent. McCarthy's prose is wonderful (at first it may be hard to understand his style, but once you enter the story his writing catches you) and the way this book tells the life in the Old West is as arid and desolate as the desert in which takes place. Although this isn't a "disturbing" book as some people say, it does have a violent scenario; the brutality is always present during the traveling of the characters.
The Judge Holden is by far one of the more interesting and complex characters. In every part he appears, it's impossible not to feel how his presence changes the atmosphere of the story. His words, thoughts, teachings and perverse acts seem guided by a mysterious (as well as natural) internal force that prevails until the end. One of the best villains ever.
This book drew my attention to Cormac McCarthy's other works. I'm looking forward to see what other incredible stories will be with me this year.
So, what do you think of this book? Do you like it? If not, why?
