I'm self-conscious about being a slow reader.
While some people here will read 100 books/year, I've never topped 25/year and that was a lot of work for me. I think I reader fewer pages/hour than most people, and I also just have a habit of not dedicating enough time to books to finish them quickly. I just don't think of myself as a person who can pick up a book and blaze through it.
I will usually take weeks to finish books, and months to finish long books. For example, I just finished Words of Radiance which took me about 6 months start to finish - granted, most of that time it was sitting on my shelf with a book mark about 300 pages in, until I picked it up again 4 months later or whatever. Actual reading time was probably 1 month total.
But there's really no reason for this - I'm sure I'm capable of finishing books quicker, I just don't. But I'm challenging myself, today! I just picked up William Gibson's Count Zero (read Neuromancer last year), and I have nothing to do today or tomorrow, so I'm going to try to finish it before Tuesday! It's only 248 pages so that should be achievable. Wish me luck!
Thanks for reading - anyone have a similar experience, or tips to change my mindset?
