Question: When buying a new book, what are the smallest damages are you willing to ignore before having the urge to return it?

Most, if not all, of my hardcover and paperback books are bought as a brand new. However, this seems to be a huge problem for me. I'm not sure if anyone else has this same exact problem as me. I want all of the books I buy to be in perfect condition.

Listed are some of the "damages" that I can't stand on books and would potentially lead me to returned such damaged books. 1. Smudges that can't be removed (even a small black stain) 2. Bent corners 3. Damaged binding 4. Bent pages 5. Front cover of book flops up and is not parallel to the bottom cover 6. Etc

It is just extremely frustrating when I'm trying to buy books that are in new condition. Most "new" condition books aren't in perfect condition and have damage that may seem minor but is huge for me. Such damages are more easily noticeable on paperback books. This makes it extremely difficult to find mangas in near perfect condition.

I have purchased both paperback and hardcover books recently from Amazon and I had to return them due to the damages on them. I have tried most local places such as Barnes and Noble around me to no avail. In addition, calling local stores to ask about conditions of certain books aren't helpful because the responses are simply "new" books. They won't even answer if the book is damaged in any way.

Are there any websites anyone knows that tend to ship books in near pristine condition for mangas and hardcover books? Sorry about the long rant.

tl;dr: Rant about "new" condition books aren't in perfect condition.
