What is your opinion on the importance of prose in a story?
I've noticed this over the years, but books people recommend because of the prose, or quality of writing, have by and far been the books I enjoyed reading the least. From Lolita to McCarthy and so on, books known for being written beautifully, or impressionably, don't catch my interest... at all.
Yet I enjoyed the hell out of Artemis, Andy Weir's new book. It had personality, charm, and felt tangible in it's telling.
Am I missing something when it comes to reading prose for the sake of reading prose? I know there's beautiful books with good story, Name of the wind, Bradbury, etc, but... for the people who read for the prose itself, or for the people who don't... what's your opinion? Why do you love it, or why not?
