Psychosis -- How to help someone with it? (Canada)
(sorry if the formatting is bad, I've never made a long post before) I really need some advice on how to help my brother. I'll explain some of the story below, but I'm afraid for his health, and for the safety of my mother and myself.
My 18 year old brother has had an issue with pot for around 4 or 5 years now. He's high all the time; I know people say it can't be addictive but there's no other way to describe it. He started smoking this stuff called shatter (chemically processed weed, high THC, I've heard it's really not a good thing and nothing like normal weed) I don't even know how long ago, but it was probably quite awhile ago. The past couple days it seems like he has went insane.
It started with him smashing up our house 5 days ago in a fit of rage and having the cops called then screaming at the cops for like 2 hours... Basically I don't wanna get too much into the details here, but he's always had temper issues (we had a hard childhood with an extreme alchoholic father for many years who passed away last summer, however I think this is no excuse for how he acts sometimes), but he has never done anything violent; he just yelled before.
The reason he did this is because he started believing he was bi-polar out of no where and my mom told him he needs to be diagnosed by a professional instead of just thinking he's bipolar.
The day after the incident with the cops, he began thinking he was a "bipolar genius" and the way he acts is getting worse every day. He's been doing things like offering to teach me my mechanical engineering courses (he dropped out of highschool twice and understands none of it), calling everyone else stupid basically, leaving weird notes around the house, cheating on his new girlfriend (nothing new I guess) , and pretty much everything he says sounds insane, random and makes no sense.
He's also (starting today) writing out insane nonsensical, unordered "plans/mindmaps (in his words)" on how to get in to Harvard. He's asked me like 3 times today to call Harvard for him, and he believes he's figured out some secret acceptance puzzle to get accepted into the college (I know, insane, but you have to see his notes to realize how insane it truely is). The way he talks about it is f***king insane. He's also been making a "snapchat documentary" about his life as a "bipolar genious." For the most part, he's been calm lately unless something doesn't go his way.
We've taken him to a psychiatrist and had him evaluted by our city polices' mental health team (upon reccomendation of the cops who initially responded to our cal after the house was smashed up) but we keep getting redirected to other people who say they can't help us. One of the cops who first responded told us it's extremely hard to get help for mental health issues.
The only thing we have established from the multiple physciatrists is he IS NOT BIPOLAR, is not a genious, and has most likely psychosis from all the shatter he has been smoking. He also has a history of cocaine (not using right now) and currently uses sterioids I think (and has been for a year or two).
He has always been an entitled narcicist, but he has never seemed insane. He's not an idiot, but he's also definetly not a genious.
I don't know what to do....... I've left out countless details that are probably important to this situation, but I hope this is enough for someone to give me some advice. Thanks so much for taking the time to read this.
