What do people use .net Core for? Why is it interesting?

Documentation says MVC is supported on it. And some of my friends use it in Microservices. There’s a lot of info out there so I’m not sure how it’s used in the wild.

But is there a particular scenario where it’s especially useful? Is anyone using it at there work right now?
