Why do people usually prefer MySQL with .NET Core as compared to MS SQL?

I'm still learning .NET Core and I've seen quite a few people using MySQL as their database instead of MS SQL when working with .NET Core. Why is that? Isn't MS SQL more suited to .NET since it's by MS too?
