Why is forum software so stagnant? Where are the competitors powered by .NET Core?

Is the demand for forum software shrinking? Is it due to Facebook, Reddit, Discord, etc.? Or is the supply simply adequate? It sort of blows my mind that solutions like phpBB, MyBB, etc. still sit at the top of anyone's list of recommendations. I'm happy to see vBulletin finally start going away. I'm a big fan of Discourse, but its approach and design are too much for a lot of people.

I'm also surprised to see PHP continue to dominate this arena. Now that .NET Core is fairly mature, I was hoping to see some real competition. Sadly, all I can really find is JitBit and YAF.net. They're both holdouts from the .NET Framework days, it seems. Are there other players in this space that I'm missing? With all the perf gains of .NET Core, I'd much rather deploy a forum powered by that than PHP, Ruby, Node.js, etc.
