Putting people on pedestals

I've noticed that sometimes I put people on pedestals as if they are these geniuses who have authority over everything. I don't grant this to anybody and everybody. If the person I'm talking to passes a few tests, I start to give them authority over me, even though I know little about them. They might only have superficial qualities that make them sound authoritative. Other times they may say things that appeal to me, even though I know a limited amount about what they're talking about. I guess it's sort of like psychological splitting. I'm growing out of it though. Just because a person might seem educated, or make sense in some way, doesn't mean they have authority. (This can be quite funny)

Also, other times I might judge people too harshly. Just because someone doesn't know something or is ignorant in some way doesn't mean they can't be knowledgeable and intelligent in other areas.
