If people don't like workmanlike prose, how does Brandon Sanderson get so much popularity?

I gather my assumptions from a previous post I made here. A lot of people say that they wouldn't read the book if the prose isn't beautiful.

But Sanderson's prose is simple and to the point and not musical or lyrical at all.

But still how does he manage to please so many readers?

Does it mean a book can be amazing with great concepts and great characters alone?

Orwell does the same in 1984, and he's one of the most well known writers of all time.
