Some tips that help me cope. Thought I'd share it incase it might help others.
Some things to keep in mind: - Your disorder does not define you. - Find coping habits that are effective to combat stress. - A little meditation every day goes a long way. - Your thoughts are temporary and ever-changing; they are not facts about yourself and some do not warrant your attention. - Use exposure techniques to help you get started on things that are difficult or cause you great fear. - Exercise is important to improving focus and concentration. - Make more time for self-care because it makes a huge difference. - Have rewards in place AFTER you accomplish something difficult. - With a bit of time and effort, you will heal and eventually conquer your mental illness.
I literally wrote all this down just now. It just came to me. I'm right now in the midst of having clear, level-headed thinking which is rare for me. I'm struggling with my own battles, but these small tips that take a lot of effort are important in successfully combating my fight with mental illness. In no means are they the answer to fixing everything, but they do help. These are just things to keep in mind, to help create some positive thoughts and behaviours. I did go through CBT and I am going through group therapy for a month. I definitely encourage anyone suffering from mental illness to seek help from mental health professionals.
(Side note: if you do seek help, and the professional you confide in doesn't seem like they are helpful - I have had an experience like this and so have my friends - don't be discouraged. Try seeking multiple counsellors, psychologists, doctors, etc. until you find the right one that provides the appropriate therapy or treatment that fits your needs.)
My tips are a bit vague, so if you need clarification, don't hesitate to comment or message me. Best of luck on your journey in defeating mental illness!
